Film dari Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters (2017) bersinopsis Pada tahun 2048, umat manusia terpaksa meninggalkan Bumi setelah puluhan tahun kalah melawan Godzilla dan monster raksasa lainnya. Mereka melakukan perjalanan dua puluh tahun ke planet lain bernama Tau Ceti-e, tetapi setibanya di sana, mereka menemukan bahwa planet tersebut tidak dapat dihuni. Ketika kondisi kehidupan di kapal mereka memburuk, seorang pemuda bernama Haruo mempelopori gerakan untuk kembali ke Bumi dan merebutnya kembali dari para monster. Kapal berhasil melakukan perjalanan pulang, namun kru menyadari bahwa dua puluh ribu tahun telah berlalu, ekosistem bumi telah berevolusi dan berpusat di sekitar Godzilla.
