Film dari The Westward: Good Bye, Monkey King (2020) bersinopsis Prekuel serial animasi "Journey to the West", Su Yi, seorang putri alam surga, berteman dengan Sun Wukong di dunia fana dan jatuh cinta padanya. Namun, Sun Wukong diperlakukan dengan kejam sebagai iblis oleh dewa lain dan ditekan di bawah Gunung Lima Jari. Dalam 300 tahun terakhir, dewa Rulai telah mengajari Wukong cara menegakkan keadilan di dalam hatinya. Sun Wukong melindungi Biksu Panjang Umur dan pergi ke belahan dunia lain untuk mengambil api ciptaan demi kepentingan dunia, namun akhirnya kembali setelah mengalami banyak pasang surut. Konspirasi muncul dan nasib guru serta muridnya ditulis ulang.
